A Little Help From My Friends

This post is dedicated to a group of people that I'll be seeing in 1 day. I have to make a public commitment to share this blog with my friends.

For those of you who don't know me, you're thinking well duh, they're your friends you should be able to share that sort of information, it's just a blog. True but these people are my friends, which means I care and value their opinion more than anything else.

I am the most garrulous, boisterous, and outgoing person you'll ever meet. So why do I have this fear of my friends? Who knows but tomorrow I'm having a birthday and I've made a public commitment.

Thankfully because of these friends, what they've shared and the trust they have put in me I have made a decision to make a bold step myself.

Going into business for yourself is no easy task and it's not made any easier if you keep that information to yourself. It's because of my friends that I have been encouraged, inspired, and have the courage to put myself out there.

With everything, there must be a beginning, and this is it for me. I will not be afraid, I will use the talent and gifts that I have been blessed with.

The month of March includes my birthday, my husband's birthday, my first-born's birthday, our wedding anniversary, my cousin's birthday, my best friend's birthday and now the birth of

Thank You Dancing with the Stars!!

Never in a million years did I ever think I would say that.

Consider the last wedding you went to, what was the least memorable moment? That's right! You don't remember because it was so mundane and predictable... I'm talking about the first dance.

I'll admit that I didn't put 15 years of dance class to good use (sorry mom) for my own first dance and there aren't many things that I would say I'd do differently but first dance is one of them. I think there's only so much staring that your guests should be subjected to.

One of the greatest new trends to emerge has been a choreographed first dance. I'm not talking a waltz, either. I'm talking about a routine that really embodies the couple and can incorporate the entire wedding party.

Not quite sure what all these dance styles look like? A local dance studio not to be named but it rhymes with Ted Affair has a link that showcases 17 different ballroom styles from classics like the foxtrot to more upbeat rhythms like west coast swing.

On a budget but still want to wow your crowd? Might I suggest:

1. A little website called YouTube and search for wedding dance and you'll find some inspiration.
2. If you go as a group there's usually a discount.
3. Near a city gym or park? You'd be surprised at how many group dance lessons are offered.
4. Ask you bridal party! There's always some hidden talent or at least you guys will all go in it together!

Final Tips:
1. Don't be pressured into doing something you're uncomfortable with
2. Keep it classy. Remember there will be footage and documentation
3. Do it big, do it right, and do it with style. ~ Fred Astaire

Brrrr...

One of the benefits of living in South Florida is the weather. Imagine the disappointment that I feel when I learn that the temperature is going to be in the 40's. I have owned the same jacket for the last 6 years. My daughter has 1 pair of jeans. My husband has to sacrifice his jackets so I can switch it up. My son doesn't know why he's got to put a sweater on when it's so nice and warm in the house.

Again, what does this have to do with events?

You always have to be prepared. South Florida can be a little tricky. Our weather does not always reflect the postcards we tease our family and friends with.

Have an outdoor event this weekend? Did you remember to order extra heaters?

Hopefully they haven't run out of the really pretty ones.

An event planner has the knowledge to read and re-negotiate contracts to make sure that these sorts of things are taken care of so you don't have to. A great planner would have looked up the extended forecast and secured things before the rest of the procrastinators scramble to secure heaters.

Can you picture yourself in a beautiful strapless gown in this weather? Blue is in fashion but not on your lips.

Rain, Hot, Cold, Snow (hey it did this year!) an event shouldn't be ruined because of mother nature. Think of all the possibilities and if you HAVE to cancel make sure you have a way out of your contracts because your vendors will show up and expect to be paid.

Why Not?

Kids always ask "why?". My unusual child started asking me "why, not" this morning.

I was proud that she had such an epiphany at such a young age. That also meant that my answer had to be reasonable and well thought out. Why shouldn't she eat an old piece of cereal?

Keep reading, trust me this has to do with planning an event.

At the height of the worst economic struggle America has ever seen why should we be thinking about spending time, money, and effort on an event?

Well.. why not? When we gather and celebrate it is a time to take our minds off of the everyday and and focus, even if it's just for one night, on what truly matters. We tell our family and friends that this moment was so important that you insisted on sharing it with them. I'm not saying go broke because with a hispanic background the guest list usually includes more cousins than friends.

We have to tap into our inner toddler and say "Why not!". Having the skills of an event planner at your disposal can prove invaluable. We've got experience, connections, advice, and mostly the resolve to see your project all the way through.

There are the typical celebrations like weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, retirement, babies but now it's time to celebrate lives great achievements a promotion, new job, half birthdays, new business, you name it and it's worth celebrating!
